My Introduction Post
I see you've made it to my first blog post! Glad to see you here.
Get comfortable, I'm about to tell you the story of how I became a photographer.
I grew up dancing, starting at the age of 3. Through the years, I have danced in dance theatre, concert dance works, competitive dance, dance team, and many other things. I have even gone on to train in various dance styles, at a collegiate level. It is during this time, that I first picked up a camera, intentionally.
In the summer of 2022, I worked as a dance model for a dance wear brand, under the artistic direction of Heather O'steen Photography. At the end of the shoot, I approached her and asked her how she began photography. Interestingly enough, before answering my question, she exclaimed that I should become her intern this summer. And so, I did.
It was truly a trade of sorts. I followed her around, helped pose young dancers while assisting in technique and carrying camera equipment. She taught me the foundation of my photography. ISO, Aperture, Shutterspeed, and many other things you let me worry about as your photographer :)
Today, I work under as 'Created By Kamea'. I specialize in dance & portrait photography, but I have experience working in event photography, self portraits, and artistic portraits. There are two attributes of photography that are my bread and butter, if you will.
The first: worldbuilding & storytelling. As a dancer who favors concert style, contemporary & modern dance, I am infatuated with the idea of being transported into the experience presented on stage. Did you know you can do that with photos? Capture moments that will become things that allow you to relate and remember with moments of past? I think that's quite beautiful!
The second: the concept of creation! Through my life, I have been apart of many creative processes. There is nothing like having a blank canvas just waiting to be filled. I find that photography is my way of creating miniature moments of God's living and breathing creation. The most beautiful part of creation... I am making nothing new, but rather exploring every thing, person, and experience I have you to see or be apart of.
This concludes, my introduction and first blog post! Did you learn something new about me? I cannot wait to learn about you, I mean, who likes a one-sided relationship am I right?
Talk soon!
Most Love,
Created By Kamea <3
